Carla was one of the 11 volunteers in Baia Mare is mine project, in autumn of 2022. Here is her opinion over the activities and her volunteering story.
Volunteering for me in Baia Mare was an interesting experience, especially from the perspective of time as organizing it. Each part of the project required increased attention, a way to work efficiently and being on time. Every activity during these six weeks made me discover myself and the city where I live.
Baia Mare, a city neither small nor big, nevertheless includes vast fields of activity, a city with possibilities, with personality. Even if you are from Baia Mare, you have no way of knowing all the history of this city, the events and surroundings in the area.
Ever since ancient times, the most important art has been architecture. If you go to the old center of the city you can discover buildings with an interesting architecture, squares and parks where you can walk and the Stephen Tower, from which you can see the magnificent panorama of the city, museums with different specifics that also present aspects of civilization and buildings with a strong historical impact.
The activities carried out were closely related to the places in Baia Mare. Creation of magnets for the promotion of the city, city map, quizzes about curiosities of the city and various places to see. The culture of this city, but also of this country, leaves a beautiful feeling for those who have not been here before and wish to return. Cultures and traditions from foreign countries also create interest and curiosity. In this way, by describing and presenting everyone's personal project, we managed to discover Baia Mare and the community we belong to. We managed to get to know each other better, to interact, to communicate for the same purpose, to know the origins. Also, the mentorship sessions helped with inner knowledge and a way to see each opportunity differently. Each skill should be used in personal/professional development.
The board games with the organization but also the city games at the youth center with other volunteers showed us that we have undertaken various skills like the way to think logically, to find a solution in any challenge and to have fun in a beautiful way.
I want to thank the project coordinator for all the involvement and patience granted during this time. It was a beautiful and interesting experience, I met new beautiful people and the collaboration with them resulted in a successful ending without incidents ).
